Mary Portas: On Style

New Series on Radio 4

Style guru Mary Portas will be taking to the airwaves this autumn with a new series on Radio 4, talking about all things style including clothing, architecture and interiors, looking at the expressions of style and the attitudes behind them.

Radio 4’s Commissioning Editor for Arts, James Runcie, adds: “When it comes to style experts few surpass Mary Portas. Her authority on, and insight on the subject of design, will illuminate the topic for Radio 4 audiences and invite listeners to think about their own relationship with style.”

Experts Talk

Mary will be talking to design professionals from different areas including world No1 trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort and cult street-style star Miss Jason of Jason’s closet. Miss Jason will be reporting from UK cities, discovering what people are wearing and buying today.

Style Matters

Mary Portas says: “Style is something that’s totally innate yet at the same time, outwardly facing. Because style can reveal the attitudes, passions, desires, and beliefs not just of an individual, but of an entire society. In this programme I explore what style means to us and the way we live today, and talk to some hugely talented and brilliant people in the process.”

Mary Portas: On Style will be broadcast Tuesday 17 and 24 September, 1 and 8 October, 11:30 – 12:00 (Producer: Ekene Akalawu for BBC Radio 4)
