Fun Leopard Print Drawers Step-by-step

Instagram interiors influencer, Sofie from @threeboysandapinkbath for Furniture paint specialist Rust-Oleum shows us just how to add some wild style to an otherwise bland set of drawers with three paints from the Rust-Oleum Furniture Paints range .

Materials:

  • Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Carbon
  • Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Cotton
  • Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold
  • Roller and tray
  • Small paint brush
  • Sponge

Step One

Place your furniture on top of a large dust sheet or some old newspapers.

Step Two

Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint often requires no sanding and no topcoat, making upcycling furniture super straight forward. Simply clean your furniture thoroughly to ensure there’s no grease or dust on the surface to be painted.

Step Three

Remove the drawers from the carcass and mask or remove existing handles before painting the base coat.

Step Four

Using a roller, paint the main carcass of the drawers. Paint the drawer fronts, top and base of the carcass with Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Carbon. Next, paint the sides of the carcass with Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Cotton. If you want something a little extra, paint the sides and insides of the drawers in Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture paint in Gold! Leave this to fully dry.

Step Five

Next, paint your leopard print design onto the white parts of the carcass using a sponge. You may want to cut a few sections out of the sponge to get a more varied print.

Dip the sponge in the Carbon Furniture Paint and practice your design on a large sheet of paper first. Try blotting some of the paint off the sponge onto a disposable rag and press lightly for the right effect.

Once happy with your technique, use the sponge to dab random spots generously on the drawers. The spots should not to be perfect circles, and they should range from 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter. Leave this to fully dry.

Step Six

Next, take your Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold and dab the centres of a good portion of the larger black spots, using a medium-size paint brush or sponge.

To finish the look, add funky gold handles and style them up with plants and accessories!
