Strawberry, Lime and Marzipan Croutes

Four slices of brioche bread topped with strawberries and almonds

Decadent and inspired by French toast, serve as an easy dessert or even as a Sunday brunch treat


  1. Preheat the oven to gas 5/190C (170C in a fan oven). Sit the brioche on a baking sheet, then evenly scatter over the grated marzipan.
  2. Divide the sliced strawberries equally between each one then squeeze over the lime juice. Sprinkle with  the sugar, if using, and the flaked almonds.
  3. Put in the oven to toast for about 20-25min or until the brioche is golden and the topping is bubbling.
  4. Remove from the oven and dust with icing sugar. Serve hot with a dollop of crème fraiche, or Greek yogurt if you are feeling slightly more virtuous!

Cook’s tip:

Drizzle over some kirsch or cherry brandy before cooking, if you fancy.
