Avoid A Summer Makeup Meltdown

International makeup artist Ariane Poole says, “The sun is shining, temperatures are warmer and the air more humid …summer has arrived! Whilst most of us love the weather summer brings, unfortunately our makeup does not. You’re not alone if you’ve suffered a summer makeup meltdown so here are a few useful tips to make sure your makeup stays put and remains fresh in the face of summer…”

Prime and Prep

“Primers are a summer makeup must-have! They create a smooth, even base for the rest of your makeup and help even the most lightweight formulas last longer. Take time to find the right formula for your skin type – primers address specific skin concerns, whether it’s shine, pigmentation or dullness and finding the right one for you will make all the difference.”

Lighten the Load

“Heavy and full-coverage foundations tend to crease and slip in hot humid conditions, instead look for lightweight yet pigment rich formula like my Ultimate Face Tint (£29, arianepoole.com). This oil-free, 5-in-1 base works as a primer, tinted moisturiser, BB cream, CC cream and a foundation. This will even out your skin tone, provide a decent amount of coverage and add luminosity for the perfect summer skin base. During the warmer summer months, I use this product without a moisturiser as it contains a blend of hyaluronic acid and ceramides to hydrate the skin.”

“For a super natural, ‘second skin’ effect apply using your fingers, gently pressing the foundation into the skin, working outwards and downwards.”

Liquids Last

“When it comes to eyeshadow, liquid formulas have a much better staying power than powders, which tend to smudge and crease in the heat. My Eyeshine in Crystal Taupe (£18, arianepoole.com) is a quick-dry liquid shadow that glides on effortlessly to wash eyes in sheer, radiant colour that won’t budge or fade. The subtle hint of colour works brilliantly for a day look, or as a base to keep your powder shadow in place.”
