In true Have I Got News For You style, here are the answers….

1. A – Coronation Street is the world’s longest-running television soap opera and takes place in the fictional northern town of Weatherfield. As of 2022 there have been more than 10,700 episodes, most of which focus on typical working-class scenarios like going to the pub, having affairs and being killed by an out-of-control tram.

2. C – The Bill was set in Sun Hill and was axed six months after David Cameron became Prime Minister – presumably after sweeping cuts to the constabulary.

3. B – Grange Hill was set in the fictional London borough of Northam, and left fans devastated when it ended after thirty years without explaining who threw that sausage during the opening credits.

4. D – Fireman Sam takes place in the peaceful Welsh village of Pontypandy, which easily has the highest number of fires per capita anywhere in the UK, and for connoisseurs of cultural insensitivity, the village’s only Italian resident is called Bella Lasagne.

5. D – Home of the depressing Christmas episode, EastEnders is set in the fictional London borough of Walford, where people are 95 per cent more likely than the average cockney to be brutally murdered during the month of December.

6. B – Crinkley Bottom was the setting for Noel’s House Party, which in 2010 was voted the best Saturday night TV show of all time, ahead of The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing. Such was the popularity of the show that it spawned not one but three Crinkley Bottom amusement parks, which were a roaring success for at least three bank holidays before going out of business in 1997.

7. C – Footballers’ Wives (2002-2006) was set in Earls Park and consisted mostly of glamour models having sex with Gary Lucy, with the odd football reference thrown in here and there to let him get his breath back.

8. D – Postman Pat is set in the village of Greendale, and follows the exploits of Pat Clifton, who has managed to keep his job for forty-one years despite losing almost every parcel that ever had the misfortune of being in his bright red van. The series took a dark turn in 2003 when sub-postmistress Mrs Goggins was handed a six-year prison sentence on the basis of faulty accounting software.

9. A – Summer Bay is the setting for Home and Away, which is almost completely indistinguishable from Neighbours except for the fact it’s got a slightly less annoying theme song and is actually still on the telly.

10. B – Thomas the Tank Engine is set on the Island of Sodor, where a group of anthropomorphic trains bow to the will of the Fat Controller, who was later rebranded to Sir Topham Hatt after receiving a knighthood and a gastric band.
