Homeware retailer VonHaus have put together a handy guide on how to make your favourite Christmas market food at home. Perfectly versatile, waffles can be finished with a variety of toppings. We’ve added cinnamon to our mixture and topped our creations with vanilla ice cream and crushed gingerbread.

Preparation Time: 10min
Cooking Time: 10min
Serves: 4

  1. Mix the egg, flour, milk, butter, and additional seasonings together until you have a smooth batter.
  2. Brush your waffle maker with a little oil and pour over the mixture to coat the surface. Follow the instructions on your waffle maker.
  3. If you don’t have a waffle maker, this mixture also makes delicious pancakes. Brush a frying pan with oil, add spoonfuls of mixture and turn them over as they start to firm up to cook the other side.
  4. Top your waffles or pancakes with a dollop of vanilla ice cream, and sprinkle over crushed gingerbread before serving.

Tip: Experiment with other toppings such as golden syrup, choc chips, toasted almonds, berries (fresh or cooked) or yogurt.
