Top Tips To Upcycle Your Front Door

Now is the time to upcycle your outside area and your front door is a great place to start, says Pam Gruhn, founder of Frenchic Paint  – it can give your home such a ‘lift’ and is of course much cheaper than buying a new front door! The range to use is our Al Fresco Inside/Outside Range – and we have lots of gorgeous shades to choose from. This is also brilliant for other outside painting projects from flower pots, benches, gates, fences, window sills etc.

The ‘lockdown front-door painting trend’ has really taken off, – and our most popular colours at the moment for doors are either greys such as  Smudge, Stormy, Greyhound or the crème shades such as Cream Dream or Cool Beans – the bright pastel shades are becoming more and more popular such as Parma Violet, Dusky Blush and Wise Old Sage.

Top Tips For Painting A Front Door:

Material Matters

You can paint your door if it’s PVC, UVC, wooden, composite – our Al Fresco range works on any of these materials

Prep Up

It’s all in the prep! Make sure you clean down the door. Give it a clean – an overall wash! Sugar soap is best for this and we offer this on our online store

Oh Crumbs…

If you have a fine piece of sandpaper – use this if possible on the surface – not for too long, then wipe away the dust, as if breadcrumbs off a table

Get Painting

The great thing about the Al Fresco Inside/Outside Range is that NO primer at all is needed – you just follow the instructions on the tin! Our 750ml tins are £17.95 and 150ml are £6.95 – the little pots are also great when you’re getting started with smaller projects such as flower pots / window sills

Brush Strokes

Paint the first coat, leave 2 hours then paint the second coat – you’ll notice with our paint, there will be little brush marks which is great. The paint has no added VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) and is also proudly EN:71-3 certified so it’s perfectly child-safe

Enjoy your new front door! Be careful with the door for 2-3 weeks for obvious reasons. No varnish or sealant needed with this – it’s innovation in a can, with a heart!
