7 Great reasons to visit your local bookshop

  • You love books

  • You’ll support your local high street

  • You’ll discover new books and authors

  • You’ll find great gifts for friends and family

  • You can meet authors and talk to other people about books they know and love

  • You’ll be part of your local book-loving community

  • You’ll go home with at least one great book!

And if that isn’t enough, on Saturday, October 5, there will be bookshop events taking place up and down the country.

Lucky Londoners can hear Philip Pullman speak about The Secret Commonwealth, second volume in his Book of Dust series that takes us once more into the world of the Amber Spyglass. Waterstones Newcastle and Waterstones Dorking will also be celebrating this release with a range of activities.

Meanwhile, Waterstones Bath is to celebrate Bookshop Day and Bath Children’s Literature Festival, by hosting a free day when fans can come and meet local authors and illustrators. From 10am and throughout the day writers and illustrators will be visiting the shop to sign copies of their books.

At Waterstones Blackpool, saga writer Maggie Mason will be in store Saturday 5th October signing the latest paperback release in her Blackpool series, Blackpool’s Angel.

And Wham fans! Book your ticket to meet Andrew Ridgeley at Waterstones Piccadilly, London: hear him telling about the story of his lifelong friendship with George Michael and sign copies of WHAM! George & Me.

And that’s just a taster of what’s going on up and down the country! For more details about participating bookshops in your area, click here.

Have fun, and let us know through Facebook and Twitter which books you choose to take home with you!
